It’s extraordinary to reflect that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the successful completion of first Land Rover overland expedition.
Called the 1955-56 Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition, it marked the launch of the Series 1 86” wheelbase Land Rover Station Wagon. A team of six students, representing both universities, left London on 1st September 1955 in two examples of the new model and reached Singapore just over six months later, in March 1956, having driven through no less than 18 countries. It was the first time the journey had been achieved.
